Pet Travel Guide for Adopters
I. ADOPTERS IN SERBIA
For adopters living in Serbia, you can bring your new dog/cat home 14 days after they receive their rabies vaccination and test negative for rabies.
II. INTERNATIONAL ADOPTERS
Below are the Serbian government’s regulations for dogs/cats traveling OUT of Serbia:
The dog/cat must be microchipped and vaccinated against rabies in that order. We also vaccinate all dogs with Vanguard Plus 5.
After receiving the rabies vaccine, the dog/cat must be quarantined for 14 days at Pasha A.R.C.
After quarantine, the dog/cat will receive a rabies titer test. Once a satisfactory level of immunity has been confirmed, there will be a minimum waiting period of 90 days before the dog/cat is cleared for international travel.
Required travel documents include a Pet Passport and Health Certificate, which Pasha A.R.C. will apply for your dog/cat.
After all requirements have been satisfied, there are two ways a dog/cat can be transported out of Serbia to their adopter abroad:
1. Volunteer-assisted transport
A volunteer driver transports the dog/cat from Pasha A.R.C. (Belgrade, Serbia) to their destination country or the closest international airports: Frankfurt, Germany (13 hour drive ) or Prague, Czech Republic (10 hour drive).
At the airport, the dog/cat may travel in the cabin with a volunteer flight companion if it is less than 7 kg (15 lbs). If the dog/cat is traveling unaccompanied or heavier than 7 kg, it must be transported in the cargo hold (kenneled).
Individual airlines may have additional rules and regulations; weight and breed restrictions may differ according to destination country.
2. Adopter-accompanied transport
Adopters may choose to pick up their new dog/cat from Pasha A.R.C. (Belgrade, Serbia) and make their own travel arrangements to their home country. All Serbian government regulations mentioned above still apply.
Pasha A.R.C. will furnish the adopter with all required travel documents.
Additionally, please take note of the following travel restrictions:
1. Dogs/Cats are not allowed to be flown out of Serbia via airline cargo. Serbian airports do not have the infrastructure to facilitate cargo loading of domestic animals for international travel.
2. Small dogs/cats under 7 kg are allowed to travel in the cabin with a flight companion departing from Serbia.
3. Pasha A.R.C. relies on E.U. and U.K. citizen volunteers (or transport companies) to bring our animals out of Serbia because the Serbian government has not granted us the necessary permit to act as the organization responsible for transport. This might change at a future date, once we are registered as a U.K. non-profit entity.
Entry requirements for dogs/cats arriving at their destination country:
1. At this time, most countries that are part of the European Union (including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Sweden), the UK, Canada, and most states in the US (except Hawaii and the U.S. territory of Guam) do not require additional quarantine for inbound dogs and cats from Serbia, Germany or the Czech Republic IF they enter with valid travel documents.
2. If you are unsure whether your country imposes additional regulations on inbound dogs or cats, please check your government’s travel resources before applying to adopt.
